The Beyond Surf Movie Travel Journal
Day 37 / Tan Tan, Southern Morocco
After shooting in Morocco for five weeks the overall wave scorecard isn’t adding up in our favor. An unrelenting flat spell has been traveling with us like dirty old chewing gum on the soles of the travel boot. Funny thing, no matter how lame the waves are, the boys from Tan Tan Plage are on fire. They’re always finding some way to get after it. Fooling around, making the days fly by, they have an affinity for fun.
This little squad of fishermen, surfers and boogie boarders grew up impossibly removed from the rest of the surfing world. They’ve created their own myths and stories. They share waves with each other. They celebrate an encounter with a strange, foreign surfer like it’s a birthday party. Those guys are crazy about the ocean and they love the marine life.
Inspired and reinvigorated by that crazy Tan Tan crew, we say thanks! Thanks to Youssef and his friends for welcoming us with heart and soul to their home turf. Tan Tan was a great stop. We have to come back again, maybe someday when the waves are firing.
